As general motors eliminated convertibles from their model line up across the board by 1975, only cadillac would be selected for the final convertible offering in 1976. They would be advertised heavily as the last convertible with an emphasis on collectability early on. Orders were strong and capped at 14,000 units in the end. To celebrate the country's 200th birthday, the final 200 examples would be made special to commemorate the occasion. Each would be exactly the same in presentation, fully loaded with all options, and badged accordingly! Only 199 of the production examples would go on to owners, as the final #200 would go directly to the gm heritage center to be placed in the permanent museum collection.
