Xxxx wla harley davidson 45" flathead. Bike is titled as a wla but i believe the bottom end was replaced on a wl. Bike does not appear to be converted from military. My guess is, the bottom end was replaced many years ago with a more readily available wla. Bike also appears to have an original chrome front end which i would assume is from a vl. This is a great bike and fires right up. Bike has some reproduction parts including dash, speedo and a few other odds n ends. Paint is in good shape with one deep scratch on the rear fender. I have the front fender, bottom half of rear fender, and other original items for the bike that were taken off. Bike is converted to 12 volts with a new electrical system. Bike has original linkert carb. Rear exhaust port on cylinder has an old repair done to it. Bike is overall in great condition for its age and would make an excellent runner for anyone's collection. Up for sale is a 1942 harley davidson wla type iii restored, special motorcycle. The model wla was originally a military bike, used by the american army during world war ii and made available to the public after war ended. This motorcycle has the best options of its time, it's all original as a post war (civil) harley davidson. This is a true piece of world history as it was the motorcycle that guided the allies to the victory and became known as "liberator". They were the first vehicle the europeans from occupied villages and cities would see at the moment of liberation from the naziz. Harley davidson made a mass production of these bikes for war and they entered the roll of the most sold bikes. Historic motorcycle, 750 cc, antique, very appreciated and desired by harley davidson collectors. Extremely rare motorcycle, specially in the condition it is. 1946 harley davidson big twin flathead "u" model. Very rare bike these days and a lot of good oem parts here. All flatheads are on the rise right now and especially the big twin flats. I think due to all the renewed interest in flat track racing around the country and events such as trog and race of gentleman have really given rise too flatheads. Please view all of the photos and read the complete description before placing a bid. He did not want to sell it and it took me a long time too purchase this from him as he had plans himself on the bike. Felt like i was buying his first born from him and i totally understand the feeling as i have been there myself and was really excited about this project as well as i have owned many 45's but never a big twin. Only reason i am even considering it as i can not afford two builds and have a panhead in the works and went back and forth on which one to focus on and just already had too much time and energy wrapped up in a 48 project to switch gears. This is a no reserve auction which means any bid could be a winning bid! So please understand this. I feel the starting price is very low for this bike and will be very sad to see it go at the starting price as it is worth well more in my humble opinion and a great investment. This is a great opportunity for someone to take this base bike to the next level. This is a very good opportunity for someone to own a rare piece of history and it pains me to sell as i had all intentions of doing this bike project myself but my big twin flathead dreams will have to be put on hold for now and let someone else do it or ride it as is. I purchased this bike from a harley mechanic that had a vintage bike shop for 30+ years. One of his best friends owned this bike and they built it together and he unfortunately passed away and he ended up with it from the family a couple years after he passed. He rebuilt the engine and transmission for his friend before he received it. He said during the rebuild he figured out it had ulh heads and cylinders and is a 80" motor that he said is in fantastic shape as well as the transmission as he had rebuilt at the same time as the engine which i gathered was in the late 90's and it was last registered in 2002 the year he passed. License tag says it all "filthy" (which does not go with the sell). Cases look great-correct with no visible repairs motor mounts look great with no repairs as well, with a perfect vin and vin pad. The transmission also looks great and original. That in my opinion will need to be taken out and a real filler cap put on it obviously. Transmission looks great though and correct. My intentions were to take it down to frame and fix neck back to stock and anything else that needed to be done to it which the neck is only major thing. This bike has great bones and potential. The bike actually has a very good sit to it like it is and the rake and trail seem to be great and sits flat with the rake and the proper length extended front end that was used on it. It has a pro clutch from what he told me believe made by rivera the clutch seems super smooth and moving freely and smoothly, nice set up with the mousetrap. This bike has sat for many years the tag on it reads 2002 and when i pulled it out of the building looked to have about that much dust on it. He said this will be nothing to get cranking and running and the engine and transmission will be good to go for many more years. For better of worse he is a part time pastor and turned his old bike shop into a church! He said in his opinion possibly just from the sitting the worse thing he thought i may face is the generator may need to be rebuilt or replaced and obviously the battery from sitting and other than that will run down the road parts wise. It is all there though. Gas tank is not even really that dirty inside. Looks much better than i would have ever thought it would be. It was going to be a wall hanger for me in my garage. Bike looks to be complete and could be ran as is. One other note bike also rolls very freely a lot of old bikes i have bought and barn finds i have bought through the years are always hard to roll from brakes sticking and what not. It just struck me as i was loading it and made the comment to him at how nice it rolled and was surprised by that. Another note i lost the throttle side grip on the way home, flew off somewhere on the highway throttle & throttle sleeve still good to go and the shovelhead era front right switch housing is being held on with a pipe strap. Not sure if housing is cracked or the two inside screw holes are stripped or what is going on the 2 outside housing screws are in there and look good then the two on the inside are covered with the strap and i did not take off to explore or try to fix, nor did i do anything to it is is exactly as i found it. I decided to not even wash it. He told me a story about the guy rolling up to some sort of bike show in the late 90's shortly after they had finished it and the engine and transmission were pristine as well as the whole bike last he had saw it. He said what in the world saw i it a couple days ago and the bike was clean as a pin. He said he told him the cases and underneath were just too shiny and clean for a rat bike so i threw oil and sand underneath and rattle canned a few things to make it look like it should in my eyes! Said he just shook his head and laughed. Too each is own i guess! The balance is due within a week of the auction end! I bank with bank of america and wells fargo. The north carolina title is all correct and in my name. Thanks for reading and understand the terms before bidding and good luck on this. I am sad to see one of my dream projects go to a new home but hope it finds its way to someone that will do this justice and someone will have a fantastic rare bike. I have recently cranked this motorcycle and it runs good and shifts thru all the gears. I bought this one for my collection only to display and look at it.
