With its pop-up headlights, curved windshield, and roll-up windows, it was a symbol of swinging london, immortalized in the avengers television series. Weighing only 1,420 pounds, early cars could do 0-60 mph in 7. 1 seconds, with the quarter-mile in 15. 7 seconds at 87 mph. The second series elan arrived in late 1964, offering a full-width dash with glove box, oval taillights, the battery in the trunk, and optional knock-off wheels. Only about a total of 10,000 elans were built during its model run. Since its inception the elan has been a perennial cult classic and an icon among british sports cars. The elan served as the direct inspiration for the mazda mx5 miata and has often been imitated but never duplicated. There are few cars that combine the elan's delicate feel virtually perfect steering and gutsy eager twin-cam engine. Between no. 1 and no. 2 condition with service history back to first owner. Always maintained with servicing up to date. Previous owner was robert morey, the well known restoration specialist of the motor elite. A long time lotus club member, enthusiast, and specialist, he had taken remarkable care of this lotus during his ownership. The elan was repainted during his ownership to address typical clear coat issues with these cars. It was painted to a very high order with bonnet, boot, doors etc. Removed during the process. A testament to the quality of repaint was evident @ the 2017 obcd event in maryland whereby this elan won first in class against much more exotic lotus represented at this 40th anniversary british car event. The fuel tank replacement recall was completed on this elan along with drive axles replaced, all wheel bearings, brake pads/rotor machining, timing belt and drive belts, cam angle sensor, headlamp motor bushings, window motor mechanisms, rebuilt turbocharger, tires... Though this elan has 74k miles, the car has been driven regularly and serviced regularly and it shows in the way the car performs which is excellent. The most amazing attribute of these elans is the fact they can be driven year round with reliability that instills confidence. I took this car approx. 1200 miles to the annual lotus convention in alabama without any issues whatsoever and achieved 35 mpg. I have taken mountain switchback roads with this car in the wet without ever feeling that the car would step out of line. The overall handling is that special with these cars and i would never image driving the same route with the same conditions in my esprit or europa and certainly not in an elise if i had one. This lotus needs to make room for the continued restoration of my europa. I have enjoyed the versatility of this car and realize that it cannot be duplicated in my other lotus models, yet the europa has always been my favorite. It is in fact my second one. I am open to possible trades. Either early s1 europa in good, unrestored condition or a seven s4 in like condition. There are many items that come with this elan: a high quality car cover as well as custom made marine grade rain cover that fits over the erected conv. The original radio, lotus alarm system, full size spare wheel, assorted extra turbo, brake, wiper parts, additional set of floor mats. The original mini spare, jack, handle, and lotus tool kit is still with the car and in great condition. As well the convertible top is in excellent overall shape with good seals, no tears and with a very clear window. Next timing belt change will be in approx. 25k miles and oil change in 2k miles. I have seen many of these cars at lotus conventions and other british car shows over the years and this one has the excellent paint factor along with regular usage and servicing in its favor.
