The hudson motor car company made hudson and other brand automobiles in detroit, michigan, from 1909 to 1954. In 1954, hudson merged with nash-kelvinator corporation to form american motors (amc). The hudson name was continued through the 1957 model year, after which it was discontinued. The name "hudson" came from joseph l. Hudson, a detroit department store entrepreneur and founder of hudson's department store, who provided the necessary capital and gave permission for the company to be named after him. A total of eight detroit businessmen formed the company on february 20, 1909, to produce an automobile which would sell for less than $1,000. One of the chief "car men" and organizer of the company was roy d. The company quickly started production, with the first car driven out of a small factory in detroit on july 3, 1909. The new hudson "twenty" was one of the first low-priced cars on the american market and very successful with more than 4,000 sold the first year. The 4,508 units made in 1910 was the best first year's production in the history of the automobile industry and put the newly formed company in 17th place industry-wide, "a remarkable achievement at a time" because there were hundreds of makes being marketed. The company had a number of firsts for the auto industry; these included dual brakes, the use of dashboard oil-pressure and generator warning lights, and the first balanced crankshaft, which allowed the hudson straight-six engine, dubbed the "super six" (1916), to work at a higher rotational speed while remaining smooth, developing more power for its size than lower-speed engines. Most hudsons until 1957 had straight-6 engines. The dual brake system used a secondary mechanical emergency brake system, which activated the rear brakes when the pedal traveled beyond the normal reach of the primary system; a mechanical parking brake was also used. Hudson transmissions also used an oil bath and cork clutch mechanism that proved to be as durable as it was smooth. At their peak in 1929, hudson and essex produced a combined 300,000 cars in one year, including contributions from hudson's other factories in belgium and england. Hudson was the third largest u. Car maker that year, after ford motor company and chevrolet. In 1948, the company launched their "step-down" bodies, which lasted through the 1954 model year. The term step-down referred to hudson's placement of the passenger compartment down inside the perimeter of the frame; riders stepped down into a floor that was surrounded by the perimeter of the car's frame. The result was not only a safer car, and greater passenger comfort as well, but, through a lower center of gravity, good-handling car. In time almost all us automakers would embrace it as a means of building bodies. For the 1951 model year the 6 cylinder engine got a new block with thicker walls and other improvements to boost horsepower by almost 18% and torque by 28. 5% making hudson a hot performer again. The gm-supplied 4 speed hydramatic automatic transmission was now optional in hornets and commodore custom 6s and 8s. Hudson's strong, light-weight bodies, combined with its high-torque inline six-cylinder engine technology, made the company's 1951–54 hornet an auto racing champion, dominating nascar in 1951, 1952, 1953, and 1954. Automakers, such as hudson and nash, found it increasingly difficult to compete with the big three during the 1950s. Although hudsons dominated racing during this period, their feats did little to affect showroom traffic. Sales fell each year from 1951 to 1954 and only korean war military contracts kept the company afloat. This very nicely restored.

First and foremost i'd like to point out a few important details about this vehicle. This particular hudson was thesecond to last off of the assembly line, it has the rare real 7x motor with the special head and cams, it wasprofessionally restored (completely) in the 90's, the paint is not the original color (original was a lighter blue)and the top was also replaced with one that is slightly darker and with glass. This car also has upgraded options. It has a/c air conditioning, it has power steering (parts were acquired off of another '54.) and lastly, the frontbrakes have been upgraded with disc brakes for safety. This particular car was part of a private hudson collection, and has always been garaged. This car was originally acquired in the south, it has only been in ny state for ashort period of time. There is no rust no body issues description: this car has the 7x motor, it has special internals, bolts, head and cam as per engine specs. It is the 210bphmotor and is original to this car. It was rebuilt in the 90's along with the restoration of the vehicle. The carhas exactly 4,306 miles since its' rebuild. This is an old vehicle and as such does leak a little fluid when it isnot utilized. The engine has been recently tuned (both carbs and linkages adjusted, plugs, oils etc). Thetransmission is a hydro-matic 3 speed with the 4th overdrive, it shifts well and does require tuning from time ittime, it drives like a semi-automatic should. The rear end and drive train are in excellent shape, the car runsvery well its smooth and cruises on the highway with no difficulty. This hudson has power windows, power convertible top, power steering and power brakes (all work well). The brakeshave been converted to disc brakes mainly for safety, and an air conditioning unit has been installed. The radio isoriginal and has also been adapted to work with fm. The stereo system of the car has been upgraded and there arespeakers under the seats and hidden in the rear on the car to maintain originality. The speedometer works well, the only gauge that isn't working is the temperature gauge so an aftermarket gaugedisplays temperature (see picture) gas gauges, speed gauges, and other gauges all work well. Blower motor andtemperature functions all work well. All of the rubber seals and weather stripping are excellent. The body of this car is one excellent shape. There are only 3 total scratches on this car. There is one on thepassenger door (see picture) and one on the bottom of the drivers' door along with the rocker panel (under drivers'door). The chrome is in perfect condition with no damage anywhere. Everything was re-chromed and its all in 100%condition. I have taken pictures of any damage (if any) anywhere on the vehicle. All of the electronics and lightswork well, there are no issues with paint or any body issues, this car is 100% metal and was professionally frameoff restored and painted in the 90's. The color is now navy blue the interior color is original. The originalcolor of this car is a light blue color (almost teal) and the top was lighter as well. This top has glass and is inperfect condition with no damage tears or wear at any place. The cars undercarriage is in perfect shape, there isno rust or issues anywhere, the panels, the floors, the frame or any place underneath. The tires are in newcondition (white wall) the inner trunk floors and panels are solid, no rust anywhere. The engine is healthy and runs excellent, it starts almost immediately, it has been tuned (twin carbs twin hmotor). All of the fluids have been replaced and the car has been inspected for the sale. Slab sided styling that some referred to as an inverted bathtub, hudsons were good selling cars in the late 1940's and early 1950's. And they were fast for their day with marshall teague piloting hudson hornets over the finish line in early nascar events on a regular basis. However, sales started to decline by 1952. But hudson never let the guard down. Frank spring breathed as much new life into hudson offering twin-h dual carburetion for the "instant action" engines, tuned suspensions with "center point" steering, airplane like shock absorbers and several luxury appointments usually found on top-shelf automobiles. For 1954 hudson promised the world and delivered as much of it as possible. the car - finding a hudson hornet convertible is a rare thing, finding one that is in the stellar condition of this example can be a once in a lifetime experience. Finished in bristol cream yellow, the interior had been done in plush red leather with a tight-fitting tan top. The optional twin-h dual-carb setup is the star under the hood, with the rest of the engine bay looking as good, if not better than the day it was put on sale. During a recent test drive, we were amazed at the immediate acceleration delivered from this "instant action" six. At a glance, this car may seem to be cumbersome on the road, but the light touch needed to steer and the immediate self-leveling system combine to deliver a comfortable and controlled driving experience. It is fitted with all the right stuff, power lift windows, original am pushbutton radio, heater defrost and clock, all encased in the immaculate dash with bright chrome and easy to read gauges. This car represents the last of the breed and one that will appreciate in historical value in the next few years..

The car has been off the road since the late 70's, the oil change sticker on the door dates to November of 1976 and the mileage is pretty close to what is on the odometer. The engine turns free, and it is out of the car at the moment, I will set it back in prior to pickup so that the car is easier to move. I have been unable to locate any major rust issues, the rear perimeter frame is solid and the seat springs still have factory paint on them
