I say very rare as they only built 12,915 skyliners in 1959! Too cool and remember this is 1959 technology !! This is a nice - dry - solid - california - idaho high mountain desert - western car and it shows! It only has 43,146 actual original miles since brand new and yes we do have an odometer statement from the previous owner !! I drove this car as my daily driver for the last several days and it runs and drives very well! This ford galaxie skyliner retractable two door hardtop is a sweet driver in town and cruises down the freeway at 75+ mph easily and smoothly. 1959 was the last and they tell me the best year of the skyliner retractables !! This is a quality classic car that is ready to drive, show and enjoy! At the heart of this beauty is the very strong !! - appears original - optional code "h" - 352 cid v8 (300 horsepower from the factory!!) motor that is running very well indeed. The motor also sports the original 4 barrel intake manifold, original exhaust manifolds, original "ford" scripted valve covers, dual feed holley 4 barrel carburetor and the original air cleaner housing, etc... . Sounds great too with the factory style true dual exhaust system with chrome tips that was replaced last year from the exhaust manifolds back. The engine is backed by a smooth - three speed - "cruise-o-matic" - automatic transmission that also functions very well. The tri tone fawn tan cloth with radiant bronze and colonial white vinyl interior is in very nice !! All of the black rubber weatherstripping is soft, supple & in good condition. Showing some very small chips and some imperfections but is still bright and shiny and looks stunning ! Colonial white and tahitian bronze exterior with a very nice fawn tan cloth with radiant bronze and colonial white vinyl galaxie skyliner interior is a great color combination indeed, how could it get any better on a 1959 galaxie skyliner retractable two door hardtop ?! This skyliner comes nicely equipped including working factory "frigiking" air conditioning, factory power steering, factory power wipers, factory front wing windows, factory gauge clusters with 120 mph speedometer, factory power "retractable" hardtop, working original am radio, original clock which is no longer working, good heater and defroster and the original dual chrome remote side view exterior mirrors. There are not many of these beauties left on the roads for sure! The suspension and drive line seem to be in good working order as well as the electrical system. Check out the awesome - factory original - ford galaxie stainless steel wheel covers and bf goodrich wide whitewall steel belted radial tires from coker with very few miles on them, they look outstanding on this skyliner retractable & really retains that clean "factory original" look! All of the original exterior body trim and moldings are in nice condition including nice original badging, nice original chrome front & rear bumpers and nice original stainless steel grill & headlight surrounds. The clean - solid trunk also sports a full size spare tire and the original metal storage bin. This vehicle is in great mechanical condition and it runs and drives very well! It is solid with respect to the overall mechanical condition as well as the overall cosmetic impression. Again, this is a nice - dry - solid - california - idaho high mountain desert - western car! New owners probably could have sold tickets to watch the big hardtop tuck itself into the trunk, and this 1959 Ford Skyliner retractable is one of the nicer examples we've seen in a long time, with a great color combination and a fully functional top mechanism. Hundreds of feet of wiring, multiple limit switches and motors, and a bunch of smoothly pivoting hinges make this car possible, and it really does work as advertised.
