The chrysler imperial, introduced in 1926, was the company's top of the range vehicle for much of its history. Models were produced with the chrysler name until 1954, and again from 1990 to 1993. The company positioned the cars as a prestige marque that would rival cadillac and lincoln. According to a feature article in aaca's magazine the adjective ‘imperial’ according to webster’s dictionary means sovereign, supreme, superior or of unusual size or excellence. The word imperial thus justly befits chrysler’s highest priced quality model. In 1940 the imperial line was simplified, with the chrysler saratoga taking the top model position. Between 1946 and 1948, it was called the imperial crown, returning to the top level trim package designation. The two vehicles had a $100 price difference and a 10 lb weight difference. Hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers were in the front and rear. Two-speed electric windshield wipers were standard. Interestingly the "imperial" name was introduced on top-level cadillac-built limousines, starting in 1941. Very few of these cars were built and they were normally built to special order. This very rare car is believed to have been built for and used at the greenbrier resort in white suphur springs, wv. It would have used to retrieve special guests arriving by train from new york and dc primarily. The car is fitted with flagstaffs and a siren further bolstering the importance of the guests it was used to convey. The car was then sold to a local dentist, who kept it many years before passing it on to another collector who also kept the car many years. Replaced wheel bearings replaced or repacked and restored. Replaced water pump, exhaust repaired, various electrical issues fixed, engine tune up. The engine is strong and so smooth that it is sometimes difficult to tell it is actually running. It cruises the interstate effortlessly at 80 mph and will do so all day long. One would feel confident driving it anywhere in north america! Receipts for all work done since 2011 accompany the car . This is a very rare ccca full classic, and is eligible for all ccca events. It would make the ultimate caravan car! Power Windows
