1931 cadillac model 355 a if provenance were the only thing to be considered when we priced a car we would be asking a million dollars for this cadillac. This car was originally purchased from mabbett motor company in rochester ny. The cadillac was purchased by a very prominent priest and educator named john francis goggins. Father goggins was born in palmyra, new york on july 22nd,1877. He entered the saint andrew's seminary in 1894 at just 17 years old. Just three short years later in 1897 ,he was designated to study in rome and study he did ! He received his doctorate in just two and a half years. He remained in rome and ,determined to become a priest, was ordained in rome in 1902. In 1908 he was made dean of studies at st bernard's seminary, by 1913 he was a leading contributor to the catholic encyclopedia. By the time he purchased this magnificent cadillac in 1931 he had already been to rome several times and had been named rector at st bernard's seminary. He was also named to the knights of the holy sepulchre and in 1934 was named monsignor goggins . He drove and loved this car from 1931 till his death in 1966, at the time of sale after his death the car had 63k miles. The cadillac, was purchased by mister robert o'brien a prominent member of the rochester diocese and, was lovingly cared for and driven about 3500 miles until it was sold as a part of mr. O'brien's estate in 2010. The car was quietly purchased by mr. Michael auclair, a rather swashbuckling retired bomber and fighter pilot, and an avid car collector, in palm springs, california. Mike recently decided to reduce the size of his collection. Work was performed at carriagestop restorations in palmyra, ny.
