This is the first model year for the R100RS with the wind tunnel designed frame mounted fairing which all sport and touring motorcycles would follow to this day. I do not know if the odometer reading is correct or not but from the looks of the machine it seems to be true. it has a genuine luftmeister fairing and the bmw luggage. this would make a very nice addition to someones vintage collection, and a very proud vintage rider for only $3,500. 00.

In early 1976, r100s 6160001 was completed by the bmw factory, and shipped to the us along with 6160002, and 6160003. All 3 bikes were loaned to various magazines and reviewing editors. They were also displayed at various motorcycle shows to gain publicity for bmw’s first 1000cc bike. It was over shadowed by the newer design r100rs. After the publicity campaign, 6160001 was sold to carl (max) s. Dunbar sponsored the bike and entered in the 1978 daytona superbike race (finished 20th). Carl owned and raced the bike for about a year then sold it to jim a. Who owned this bmw for 32 years. Sometime in his ownership, his house caught on fire, and the upper plastic on the bike was burned. The original ignition key bares the damage of the fire. The bike had amassed about 65000 miles at this point. In 2010, a restoration was started. Another bmw r100s (61600xx) in original condition was purchased to be used as a model for the restoration. The carbs are the originals, notice the id plate carry over from the 900/6 series. These were later replaced by black plastic covers. Transmission by oak, final drive by vech, and heads by randy long. Also an omega electronic, and improved charging/starting components have been installed. A 40mm exhaust is installed, and a 38mm is included. Many restoration pictures and internal details are available. This bmw has been shown at "riding into history" a couple of times. This bmw runs great, and i have put another 1000 miles since the restoration.

The tires, battery, charging system, brakes, steering head bearings, clutch and engine seals are all in good shape. The Speedo was replaced a few years back and I don't have records of mileage prior to that. The actual mileage is unknown

There is 1 key for the ignition and the seat lock and a second one that only works the seat lock. the seat is missing the original lower edge trim but looks good with stainless fasteners along the edge. the transmission shifts properly and has no unusual noises. Sometime during his ownership he also painted the tank battery covers and front fender. We also cleaned and serviced the instrument cluster. We installed a new battery a new crankcase breather valve new steering neck bearings and had the final drive splines welded up and re-cut and re-hardened then the drive was reassembled with new seals. Motorcycles Other DX5631161624338526640166348 DX1 . the controls all work well and electrics all function as designed. Over the years the new owner installed a master cylinder kit and installed new front brake pads in the winter of 2007-08 a new sealed battery in April 2008 and he installed new fork seals and resealed the motor top end in April of 2009. We have a 6 year history with this bike. the bike now has just under 93 000 miles; it starts easily and runs smooth and strong. There is a tool tray but no tool kit. This is at the minimum of normal oil usage for an air cooled BMW! In September of 2011 we got the bike back on a trade in and now we have given it another 10K Service and disassembled and cleaned and inspected the front forks and replaced the internal bumpers. Then scroll down to the bottom right and click on the word â Fullâ . the bike does not leak. the Bridgestone tires are in very good condition. At the time of the trade in the previous owner reported oil consumption on his last trip of only 1 pint in 2 000 miles. We bought it and fixed it up and gave it a 10K service in late 2006 with 67 219 miles on it. It has obviously been well cared for. There is no key for either the fuel cap lock or steering lock. VGC new battery ready to ride. At that time we resealed the fuel tank de-carboned the heads and lapped the valves cleaned the carbs disassembled and inspected the forks and installed a ground upgrade kit on it. http://picturepush.com/ RtfQ Click on one of the thumbnail photos on the left to see it larger on the right. All in all this bike is in much better cosmetic and mechanical condition than would normally be expected of a bike of this age and mileage. I went through this bike from front to rear this winter:Rebuilt forks (seals,bumpers,springs), steering head bearing service, resleeved/rebuilt master cylinder, new Speigler stainless brake lines, rebuilt calipers and new pads, splines lubed, swing arm bearings serviced, rear brake service/lube, valves, heads torqued, advance serviced and timed, sump pickup cleaned, carbs rebuilt and synchronized, fuel tank cleaned and taps rebuilt, new motion pro fuel lines, new headlight and tool tray gasket,. 32,xxx miles. xxxx R100S - matching numbers / unrestored original condition

the MAC mufflers are in good physical condition but the chrome shows the years and they have some staining on the top of the right one. the seat is missing the original lower edge trim but looks good with stainless fasteners along the edge. At the time of the trade in the previous owner reported oil consumption on his last trip of only 1 pint in 2 000 miles
