Because of its historical status as a starring picture vehicle, i decided not to restore it. Hence, the conditionthat it’s in is almost exactly as it was in the movie. Obviously i had to have some mechanical work done, butjust enough to keep it running smoothly and safe (list of repairs and modifications below). Mechanically it runs very well, just needing the occasional tune-up. Electrically, all theimportant lights work (headlights, turn signals, brakes, etc). In addition, the window needs a new zipper. As well, the tonneau (?) coverneeds to be replaced. Here are the other main issues: the radio and clock do not work (i’ll include a replacement radio i bought, butnever installed. Think i have a spare clock too). The antenna has broken off. The sun visors need replacing. The hood lock is missing (the hood stays tightly closed though, due to its weight). While most of the gauges work,the odometer has been stuck since i acquired the vehicle, and it was sold as “tmu” (true mileage unknown). The heating system in the dash doesn’t work, butthere are manual controls that produce heat from under the seat. Possibly the biggest issue is that the doors don’t close all the way. They latch shut, but just don’t closeall the way (see photos).

I bought this in the 1970's, last time i drove it was in 1987. At that time it ran great. Lots of torque with the straight eight. Kept up with traffic easily. Some kids jumped on the top and put big dent in top. Pictures do not show it well. I have fender skirts and original wheels. Cleaning out my pole barn ,decided to sale.

We proudly present this 1950 Pontiac Chieftan Silver Streak 2-Door Convertible with electric top. Has original Flathead Straight 8 engine with custom 4-barrel carb and manifold. Light weight aluminum pistons, 12v electronic distributor. 12v Sears Die Hard Battery. When this car was restored, so much of the chrome was restored to its original luster. There are a lot of extra chromed parts in the trunk as well. Mustang II front end suspension with GM brakes (front disc). Power rack & pinion steering with GM power steering pump. New master cylinder. Rear end stock Pontiac with stock rear brakes. Stock 1950 Pontiac starter. 12v GM Alternator. The original Indian still lights up! Two chrome spotlights in trunk with the handles that were never installed. This is a piece of Americana – when life was simpler and cars were cars. This is an excellent running vehicle, clean and something that would make any collector proud to own. $89,900.
