During the aiv's three year lifespan, just 176 examples were produced. Only 49 were produced in 1997 and only 4 in blue! These were vehicles that were ahead of their time, with an all-aluminum space frame chassis giving it an incredible power to weight ratio. Weighing just 2,570 lbs. Curb weight and powered by a hand built, all aluminum 4 cam svt cobra v8 offering 305 horsepower, these were very fast. Zero-to-sixty took just 4. 3 seconds. Other feathers include leather interior with a carbon fiber trim, premium sound system, white instrument dials, 18' five spoke roush wheels, coil over suspension and mustang cobra brakes. The handmade panoz aiv roadster was introduced in 1992 by the panoz auto development company of georgia. Under the hood was a ford power-plant that produced over 300 horsepower. Zero-to-sixty was under five seconds for this front-engined, rear-wheel drive sportster. The first cars were produced using aluminum and this was the inception for the name aiv - aluminum intensive vehicle. Many of the mechanics were from the ford motor car company. The early versions of the roadster had a stainless steel space fram chassis with aluminum body. In 1997 this was changed to an aluminum frame with steel subframe. Under the hood was now an aluminum ford 32-dohc v8. The suspension was independent in both the front and rear. Production lasted until 1999 with 10 being produced in 2000 as special edition signature edition aiv roadsters. They were given superchargers and special paint colors. The minimalist front bumper, cool rubber guards on the rounded rear fenders, and a rear end that's an homage to the great british sports cars of the past all give it a look of speed and performance. And don't worry, it totally delivers on the promises made by the radical bodywork. This car has just 14,059 original miles, which explains why the handsome tan leather bucket seat interior is in such great shape. The center-mounted gauge cluster will look familiar to mustang cobra owners, as that car donated a lot of hardware to the panoz, and the big, round dials look better here than they did in the ford. Burled walnut, a leather shifter, and aluminum surround give it an elemental hand-built look that's quite appealing, and it even includes a/c and a great-sounding am/fm/cd stereo. And yes, the trunk is usefully sized, and includes a full set of roush tools. There's also a minimalist folding top in the cobra spirit, just in case of inclement weather. A mustang cobra donated its 4. 6-liter doch v8 engine to the cause, and the kenne-bell supercharger on top was a panoz factory option, pushing horsepower over 400.
