Big german sedans always look best in precious metal colors, so the factory smoke silver metallic two-tone paint is a true gem. With an original sticker price over $80k, this car was built to last. That's why the panels retain their precision gaps, and the doors shut with that authoritative mercedes 'thunk'. Inside, the e500 is distinguished by two rows of individual sports seats. These leather-clad buckets seem to perfectly showcase the car's dual luxury and performance mission. Up front, there's heated buckets with dual memory settings that adjust in every possible direction. Plus, the wheel tilts and telescopes, and all that wood is real. But there's another side to mercedes amenities that are always a nice bonus. This premium marque is known for engineering plenty of safety into their cars, and this can be seen on everything from the dual airbags to the anti-lock disc brakes. There are other desirable modern features that includes a sunroof, power windows, power steering, power locks, keyless entry, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a premium am/fm/cassette stereo with cd changer. What makes the e500 so special is under the hood. The mercedes/porsche collaboration created a german muscle car by taking a v8 made for the larger and sportier cars and fitting it into a lighter, mid-size body. The 32-valve, fuel-injected 5. 0-liter v8 was borrowed from the s-class, and porsche installed it in the engine bay. This 322 hp powerhouse was the perfect match with the sharp suspension of the e-class. The result is a true sports machine wrapped around the stealthy luxury german body. This amazing mercedes/porsche matchup only happened for a few years, and during that time only about 1,500 examples were sent to the u.
