1948 chrysler windsor highlander convertible for sale. Motorcar classics is proud to present this incredibly preserved 1948 chrysler windsor highlander convertible which comes with a fascinating history. Starz caught his son drinking and driving, so he took the car away from his son and placed it in a stone garage. Starz made sure that bob could not get the car out of the garage by cementing an iron railing around the car. Thus, with only 16,300 miles on it, the chrysler was interred this way more than 30 years, until after mr. Starz senior passed away. An old high school friend asked bob about purchasing the car, but the car held a lot of bad memories, and bob told his friend that he was going to take the to the city dump and burn it! Fortunately, bob was talked out of that idea, and after 6 more years, the friend convinced bob to sell him the car. When it was finally released from its long confinement the car still had only 16,300 miles. Subsequently the car was sold again in 1999, at which time it had 20,600 miles. In the year 2002 this car won the presidents cup at the walter p. Chrysler national meet. The car remains unrestored. The convertible top is factory original. The power top mechanism works properly, but it is rarely put it down because of the material is 68 years old. Almost everything else is 100% original as it came out of the chrysler factory in 1948; original paint, original plaid upholstery. The car currently shows 22,796 miles. The front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed because, while the car was in storage, people would put their feet on them. Both front and rear gravel pans have been painted because of scratches. The passenger door is a little off-color because, when the car was delivered to the dealership, the door was scratched during the unloading process and repainted at the dealership. The windsor is powered by chryslers spitfire 251 ci l-head inline six cylinder engine and this car has the fluid-drive hydraulically operated transmission. Everything works properly and the car likely drives as well now as when bob starz was caught by his father! It was comprehensively serviced in 2013 and would be an ideal candidate for preservation class showing. Pre-war designs that survived ww ii like the 1948 windsor highlander convertible feature an impressive mix of classic styling and the improved reliability and driving manners found in post-war cars. They remain strong in the market, and are considered to be a blue-chip post-war collectible. The emblems, stainless trim, and carpets are set off by a chrome-trimmed, 3-spoke steering wheel with old school lucite shift and stalk knobs.

1948 chrysler town and country for sale. For 1948, chryslers top-of-the-line new yorker town and country convertible was built with a combination of ash framing, mahogany veneer, and steel. The town and country is recognized by the ccca as a full classic, making the model a member of an exclusive and select list of post-war vehicles that are eligible for prestigious ccca caravans and events. According to the town and country registry, 2,936 cars were produced in 1948. 196 are known to survive. The car was meticulously restored in colors matching the original trim tag. It is powered by the chrysler spitfire 323ci inline 8-cylinder l-head motor with the fluid-drive hydraulically operated transmission. It has recorder 58,961 miles. The history file includes receipts for a complete mechanical overhaul in 2010. Everything sparkles on this car and the view from behind the wheel is particularly impressive with its long hood and deco-inspired dashboard. But to the experienced eye, the truly outstanding appeal of this example is the quality and finish of the wood and intricate joints. We have not seen its equal. For a serious collector of full classics, a town and country is a must. We respectfully submit that this is one of the best.

In fact, its ash and mahogany-framed body, which was hand-built with techniques more closely associated with fine wooden boat construction, projected an image of affluence and leisure that increased traffic at Chrysler dealerships nationwide. The Chrysler Town and Country was introduced in 1941 as a wood-bodied car with the same basic lines as Chrysler's steel-bodied models, yet one that also had greater refinement, quality, panache and a level of artistry that recalled a bygone era

1948 chrysler town and country - jacksonville, flfor sale by ownerjacksonville, fl 32209ph: 9044259541web: www. Georgesapproval. Netoptions:description:they say that a picture is worth a thousand works and i do have several nice photos of my 1948 chrysler town and country 4 door sedan. History of the car owners this 1948 chrysler town and country sedan was purchased new on june 15, 1948 by henry w. Who was the grandson of william a. Breyer, the man who founded the breyer ice cream company. Henry was then living on an 80 acre estate on old york road in elkins park, pennsylvania (cheltenham township). His mansion, which was built by his father, henry w. Breyer, sr., in 1915, is now on the national register of historic places. Used the woodie sedan to transport his family, guests and company’s executives as well as serving to commute him to his office and factory in philadelphia. Judging by the condition of the original carpets, the rear floor and the driver’s side front were quite worn but the passenger side front was still in good condition. That would indicate that breyer had a chauffeur to do the driving and that he and his guests would ride in the back seat. In 1956, breyer sold his mansion and it eventually became the offices of cheltenham township. The chrysler was put into storage where it sat forgotten and unused for some 24 years. The last license plate on the car (and is still on the car) was of a 1956 vintage and the pa inspection sticker was also of that year. One of the last oil changes done was with invader motor oil and the mileage at that time was 69,792. That oil change was done in plumsteadville, pa according to the sticker which is still on the door post. Since the current mileage of the car is 74,400, the car has had less than 5,000 miles added since that oil change which was probably done in about 1955. In july of 1980, the car was purchased by donald e. Rook of pleasant valley, pa and was added to his collection of over 100 cars, mainly chryslers and packards.
