Sure, they have that timeless stingray look, but they've become so ubiquitous that they almost go unnoticed. And i'm quite sure that was part of the plan when this one was on the drawing boards. Painting it dark graphite metallic certainly helps, giving it an elegant, understated look that is just different enough to stand out but not send up any red flags about the performance lurking underneath. The hood is an l88 piece with a functioning cowl induction air cleaner, but otherwise it's completely stock. Chrome bumpers give the corvette a classic sports car look and with a recent refinish on the trim, the brightwork sparkles against the low-key silver bodywork. There's absolutely nothing on the exterior that wasn't tweaked, upgraded, or polished to a high shine. The interior works to keep everything a secret, too. The black upholstery is a great choice with the graphite bodywork, suggesting someone with excellent taste was picking the colors. Most of the soft parts are new, including the seat covers, carpets, door panels, and dash pad, so it all looks fresh and everything matches. A vintage-looking am/fm radio connects to an ipod interface, so the soundtrack can keep up with the rest of the car. And with t-tops, the open-air experience is quick and easy. The heart of this sleeper is the original, numbers-matching 350 cubic inch v8. Combining the factory block, polished edelbrock intake manifold, summit heads, big holley 4-barrel carburetor, and an upgraded camshaft, it makes quite a bit more power than stock without losing its good manners. The 4-speed manual transmission completely transforms the corvette's personality, and it's content to cruise quietly as well as stomp around the streets. It ties it all to the road with cool 18-inch boss wheels and staggered 245/45/18 front and 275/40/18 rear radials. This car came to us in trade and i must say the previous owner spared no expense in having this vette modified to over 500 hp and over 500 lb ft of torque by way of the stage iii 416ci ls3 stroker(built by wegner motorsports cost of motor alone $9200). This vehicle was tested on the mustang dyno by west bend dyno tuning and with all this newfound power, the suspension was properly upgraded with pfadt johnny o'connell stage 1 suspension with shocks and adjustable sway bars, along with the proper brake upgrades with the bear eradaspeed brake rotors and hawk street/track brake pads. Also featured is a built transmission by rpm transmissions t56 tranny(parts only cost $3245). To handle this power, a centerforce twin disc clutch and lightweight flywheel(parts only cost $1800) and a rpm built differential with 3. 73:1 gears(parts only cost $1795). Fast 102mm intake manifold, nick williams 102mm throttle body dynotech long tube headers, magnaflow cat back exhaust. Previous customer stated over $40,000 spent on the build alone and we have the receipts including dyno reports !!!! Many many more new parts added to complete this project completely and properly. Going back to the car itself, 2004 is the last year of the c5 corvette (2215 produced) in the exclusive lemans blue paint and shale interior. This car has the z51 performance package with heads up display, dual power leather seats, 12 disc cd, cruise, 2 zone climate control with cold a/c and the roof comes off and stores in the trunk. Taking one straight, clean, matching-numbers car and adding a fuel-injected v8, a 5-speed, big brakes, and a spectacular stereo and the result is a car that's more than the sum of its parts. The way this car fits together, there isn't much doubt that it has always been a well-maintained car. The doors fit well and don't need a heavy slam to close, the fiberglass shows no stress cracks or major repairs, and that black paint looks better on the mid-year corvettes than just about any other color. Most of the 'glass is stock chevrolet, although the big block hood has been tastefully modified with a vented "stinger" in the center, and the result is aggressive, functional, and sure to generate a ton of conversation at the next show. All the original styling cues are still in place, ranging from the folding headlights to the ribbed rocker panel trim to the split rear bumpers that have been brightly rechromed. Original badges and emblems reinforce the fact that this corvette is more of an evolution of the factory look rather than a total remake, although those modern 'z06' emblems on the front fenders might raise some eyebrows. The makeover given to the interior pulls the 50-year-old 'vette firmly into the 21st century. New black leather has been wrapped around custom high-back bucket seats, using stock-style patterns and z06 embroidery on the head rests. The door panels are stock replacements, and new black carpets anchor the interior so it's not too bright, although the cool blue led lighting gives it a modern twist. A glance in back reveals that the c2 has plenty of room for stereo gear, and it's anchored by a rockford-fosgate head unit in the dash. Mechanically, the old small block is long gone, replaced by a modern tech ls6 from a late-model c5 z06. It's a neat fit in the c2 engine bay, and still carries all its original equipment, including the red coil covers that make the z06 stand out. The throttle body is now cable-operated and the air cleaner is a custom unit that wraps around the side, but otherwise it's very much the way gm built it. That's good news, because the c5 ls motors have proven to be virtually indestructible yet still deliver big performance and surprising economy. With only 491 miles on the build, everything still looks fresh, and with the oversized brakes and upgraded suspension, it rides and handles like a much more modern piece. Stock 15-inch knock-off alloy wheels help this 'vette keep a low profile and they're wrapped in very modest 215/70/15 michelin whitewall radials that really make this thing a sleeper. Preserving everything that's cool about a mid-year corvette and adding select parts to enhance the performance, this corvette gets everything right. Produced in 1999 and 2000, the fixed roof coupe was a way to make the corvette more structurally rigid and therefore and even better handler. Without the targa top in the middle the corvette's shell was 12% more rigid. This allowed for the suspension to work harder in the corners and turned the c5 into an even more incredible track machine. This particular coupe has an ace hidden up its sleeve to improve the performance immensely. That intercooler is for the twin rear mounted turbos which boost this corvette from 345 hp to 600 hp. That's right, the twin turbos are mounted all the way in the back just in front of the exhaust tips. With this set up, 91 octane, and some tuning, the vette made 600 hp at the rear wheels. This is a pretty awesome package given the only hint of the vehicle being modified at first glance would be the drilled and slotted brake rotors supplied by brembo. The total package makes for a subtle looking high performance corvette that will put most street cars to shame. With just over 60,000 miles on the odometer, the vehicle is in great shape in and out.
