Shown during the 1949 Motorama, the first Cadillac “Coupe De Ville" was built on a Cadillac Sixty Special chassis and featured a non-working air-scoop, chrome trim around front wheel openings, and a one-piece windshield and rear glass. A few generations of the Coupe De Ville passed, but the third generation – and in the 1966 model year in particular – included a somewhat coarser mesh for the radiator grille ins. The car comes with service records and book, it has it's original 429 v8, engine its strong and runs and drives great, the a/c blows cold. The trans shafts good and the brakes stop just right. The body is nice and straight no dents. The paint is good although at one point a cab driver hit the drivers door and when they try to color match it they where a shade off but a good job, the interior was redone all in leather looks good. The floors and trunk floor are solid. This is a great looking car! Air Conditioning

The first car to bear the name was the 1949 coupe de ville, a prestige trim level of the series 62 luxury coupe. The last model to be formally known as a de ville was the 2005 cadillac deville, a full-size sedan, the largest car in the cadillac model range at the time. The name "de ville" is from the french de la ville or de ville meaning "of the town" in french coach building parlance, a coupé de ville, from the french couper (to cut) i. An (unshortened) limousine or (in the united states) town car has a division between the passenger and driver compartments and if the driver's seat is outside it may be called a sedanca de ville or town car. As it had been since de ville became a separate series, de ville denoted cadillac's mainstream model, falling between the calais (which had replaced the series 62) and the sixty special and eldorado. The de ville was redesigned for 1965 but rode on the same 129. 5-inch wheelbase. Tailfins were canted slightly downward, and sharp, distinct body lines replaced the rounded look. Also new were a straight rear bumper and vertical lamp clusters. The headlight pairs switched from horizontal to vertical, thus permitting a wider grille. Curved frameless side windows appeared, and convertibles acquired tempered glass backlights. New standard features included lamps for luggage, glove and rear passenger compartments and front and rear safety belts. Power was still supplied by the 340 horsepower 429 cu in v8, which would be replaced by the 472 cu in for 1968. Perimeter frame construction allowed repositioning the engine six inches forward in the frame, thus lowering the transmission hump and increasing interior room. Pillared sedans appeared on the de ville series for the first time, while six-window hardtop sedans were dropped. A padded vinyl roof was a $121 extra-cost option on the hardtop model. In 1966 changes included a somewhat coarser mesh for the radiator grille insert, which was now divided by a thick, bright metal horizontal center bar housing rectangular parking lamps at the outer ends. Separate rectangular side marker lamps replaced the integral grille extension designs. There was generally less chrome on all cadillac models this year. De ville scripts were still above the rear tip of the horizontal body rub moldings. Cadillac crests and v-shaped moldings, front and rear, were identifiers. Cadillac "firsts" this season included variable ratio steering and optional front seats with carbon cloth heating pads built into the cushions and seatbacks. Comfort and convenience innovations were headrests, reclining seats and an am/fm stereo system. Automatic level control was available. Engineering improvements made to the perimeter frame increased ride and handling ease. Newly designed piston and oil rings and a new engine mounting system and patented quiet exhaust were used. This very nice, 2 owner rexample has had a lot of recent cosmetic work including new top and interior, brake work, miscellaneous tune up and fluid changes, new radial tires, and more. Finished in the desirable triple black and pretty well loaded including air conditioning. These cars are rapidly rising in value in the curretn marketplace and represent a solid investment opportunity, as well as being just a great driving and comfotable handling car. She floats on air bags by ride tech, digitally controlled air system (bagged) all new bushings, ball joints & tie rods up front. She rides on a set of forgiato custom wheels that holds 22's up front and 24's in the rear, they just got a fresh powder coating of gloss black on the lips and smoke black on the center spoke with new tires. Complete new interior, kicker sound system and bucket seats also has alarm system and keyless entry. Motor is complete with factory air car ( not working) and original except for fresh powder coated valve covers and breather top, new exhaust & this motor runs solid.
