A rare production with only 1,200 made, this cadillac comes complete with new brakes, tires, wire harness, and a fresh tune up. It also has a newly redone steering wheel. This car runs wonderfully and just needs to be finished aesthetically. We still have the original shipping papers from gm to a cadillac dealer in rochester new york. All in all this car is in decent shape. The chrome work needs finished however some of it was done already by the previous owner. This would be the perfect time to take a nearly complete car, and customize the needed interior, polish up the outside a bit, and have a very nice looking and driving custom classic car. Cadillac was formed from the remnants of the henry ford co when henry ford departed along with several of his key partners and the company was dissolved. With the intent of liquidating the firm's assets, ford's financial backers,called in engineer henry leland to appraise the plant and equipment prior to selling them. Instead, leland persuaded them to continue the automobile business using leland's proven 1-cylinder engine. Henry ford's departure required a new name, and the company reformed as the cadillac automobile company. The cadillac automobile was named after the 17th century french explorer antoine laumet de la mothe, sieur de cadillac, founder of detroit in 1701. Cadillac helped to define advanced engineering, luxury and style early in automotive history and would come to be known as one of the world’s finest made vehicles. Cadillac was the first manufacturer to release cars with a fully enclosed cab as factory equipment in 1910. Cadillac introduced the first production v8 engine for the 1914 model year. Cadillac was the first manufacturer to utilize the skills of a designer to produce a car's body instead of an engineer (1927). This gave the public a car that looked as good as it performed. Cadillac's engineers were first to design a manual transmission with synchronizers for increased drivability (1929) and were instrumental in the early development of the automatic transmission, beginning in 1932. Cadillac offered a production v16 engine from 1930 through 1940 and introduced the production independent wishbone front suspension in 1934. The marque introduced tailfins for 1948. From the late 1960s onward, cadillac offered a fiber-optic indication system which alerted the driver of a failed light bulb. The series 62 was introduced in 1940, remaining in production through 1964. Designed by bill mitchell, the classic era 62 series is generally considered the pinnacle of cadillac design and one of the most desirable cadillacs to own. It was available as a club coupe, sedan, or convertible. The '40 model is set the stage for post war caddys while still retaining many pre war elements such as the exposed headlights this was the last year for that iconic featurethis very nice 62 coupe is quite rare with only a handful listed in the ccca directory. The car came out of california and is a completely rust free car. The car was repainted, and had the interior redone at some point in the past, and has some minor paint issues which are pictured-a few cracks on the rear at the top of the trunk, but really presents quite well from 4 or 5 feet. A lot of recent mechancial work has been performed including rebuilt gear box, new u joint and yoke installed, brake work, a new electric fuel pump, higher performance stromberg carburator was installed as well, the car runs, shifts, and stops we;;and could be driven aroudn town with confidence but should probably have some further sorting befor a long distance run. Some trim bits are yet to be installed such as the visors and chrome window trin inserts but are with the car, as is the original turn signal lever to replace that clunky aftermarket thing. I will say the steering wheel is very nicely recast, one of the better ones i have seen. The hubcaps are new.
