Seller's comments and description: very solid body, auto has certified heritage certificate build date 22 sept. 1960full rebuild of engine with receipts appx. 2500 miles, new parts include: pistons, rings, cam, lifters, valves, springs, seals, oil pump & bypass spring, timing chain and gear, hardened valve seats for unleaded gas, all bearings. Tolerances are dead-on by professional shop. Titled as 1961 when imported. Transmission may require servicing. Negative ground conversion. Electric fuel pump w/accident kill switch for fuel pump. Remote fuel filter w/pressure adjustment. New radiator and hoses. Flame thrower cdi distributor with coil. Top like new & cover. Spin-off oil filter. Paint is original color. This is a strong running 948 and all original parts are included after changing to a weber carb and manifold. Led tail light bulbs. Needs drivers side wiper blade. Complete wiring harness like new. All shocks are in good shape. Excellent, original size tires with blasted and painted original rims. Car handles, steers & stops as stock. New foot dimmer switch. Brake cylinders replaced. This is a vehicle that can easily be fully restored and should be. Vehicle has been advertised locally and sale will cancel this offer.

This bugeye would make a great driver or great car to fully restore, basically very solid with good bonnet and door fit. The mark i sprite made from 1958-1961 became affectionately known as the frogeye in the uk and the bugeye in the us. The initial design intended for the headlights to be retractable but cost cutting deleted that idea. The engines used in the early cars was a 948 cc producing 43 hp. These wonderful little cars have a huge race following along with the midgets having their very own series called the spridget races. This super nice car and in addition to the engine upgrade has an exhaust header as well as a upgraded dual master cylinder brake system with separate reservoirs for brake and clutch. It is also fitted with a solid state electronic fuel pump which is found to be more reliable. The front and rear have been lowered for better handling along with new fuel tank. There has been a complete service in the last 2 years with full fluid system flush, rear hub seals, rear wheel cylinders replaced, repaired radius arm bushings, tuning and shimming front suspension with full lube job. The car was restored by a well known british car mechanic in louisiana, who is now retired. His expertise and attention to detail is apparent throughout the car especially in the mechanicals. This car is a spirited driver and will put a smile on any ones face who appreciates open air british motoring. This fantastic little bugeye is ready to go.
