Mareks design was obviously similar to Jaguars legendary XK unit; however, the DB4s engine utilizes all-aluminum construction, resulting in a lighter, more powerful engine than the ones that preceded it. 1961 aston martin db4 siithis superb, fully documented aston db4 series ii has been in the private collection of the third owner for about 15 years. The original owner, mr. He kept the car for many years and we then sold it for mr. Macdonald to the current owner in 2001. This is not one of those astons that fell into disrepair and needed to be brought back to life through a complete restoration. Rather, it is a very original car that has been cared for meticulously its whole life. Macdonald had the car stripped and painted and had the original interior retrimmed by automotive restoration in stratford ct about 25 years ago. We have photos of the car in bare aluminum that reveal a flawless, undamaged original body. When the current owner purchased the car, the engine had never been rebuilt, and it was time. Frank buonanno of blackhorse garage did the rebuild. He did a superb job, evidenced by the fact that 15 years and about 5000 miles later, the engine runs flawlessly. Indeed, the owner of the car and i have driven the car twice on the new england 1000 rally. The car ran both those events without a sputter. The car is matching numbers, original colors and features an incredibly rare factory steel sunroof. It is documented from new and the original build sheet shows that it was delivered new with chrome wire wheels. Full documentation is in hand along with the original owner’s manual. This db4 was ordered by its original owner in august of 1959. Due to labor problems in the fall of 1959 the build was delayed and the db4 was built as a series ii in late 59 early 1960. Db4/287/l, originally finished in snow shadow grey with red leather hides this car was a knockout combination. Inskip, as the importer, put this car on display at the 1960 new york auto show and is one of 351 series ii db4s built. This db4 is delivered to its first owner in early 1960 in oregon. From the history we can see the car being sold from the first owner to the second owner in the early 70s to another oregon resident. The car disappears until 1990 when db4/287/l is sold to a dealer in san francisco ca. In early 2000's this car is sold into maryland where the body is restored and the engine is upgraded to 4. 2l. The vehicle is also fit with a triple su carb setup that ads to the overall output of the engine. The complete power plant was dyno tested at 303hp. Well uprated from its original 266hp and just beats out a gt spec car at 302hp. In 2005, db4/287/l later undergoes additional chassis refurbishment in md. The db4 is sold again in 2008 to a collector in the midwest that continues aesthetic conditioning by re-chroming the bumpers and installing new glass. This history file is complete with the original order form and letters from the first owner expressing his frustrations with the delay of the build of his car. The brakes have been upgraded and the suspension is further dialed in with a harvey bailey kit. We have just completed full servicing and installed new wheels and tires.
