2007 acura mdx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, more powerful, more fuel-efficient, more luxurious. introductionthe acura mdx is all-new for 2007. It's larger then the previous model and has been improved in every area. That's saying something given that the first-generation mdx (2001-2006) had a unique combination of style, design, utility, and a rock-solid powertrain with both good power and good fuel economy that made it very popular among mid-size luxury suvs. It sold in record numbers right to the end and was the second-best-selling acura model (after the tl sports sedan).  the all-new 2007 acura mdx is built on a proper truck platform, and is not an adaptation of the accord passenger car platform. It doesn't look larger than last year's mdx, but it is in fact several inches longer and wider. That makes it among the largest vehicles of its type. From its wild new grille to its elaborately stylish cat's-eye headlamps to its huge new taillamps, it's got a more muscular look compared to the original, especially in the areas around the tires. Sporty styling cues include the big, fat dual exhaust tips that look like they belong on a v8, and the hefty five-spoke alloy wheels. Even the acura badge in the grille has been changed, and is now twice as big as it once was.  the seats are laid out in three rows of two, offering seating for up to seven people. The 10-way driver and 8-way front passenger power seats allow huge adjustment latitude for long-distance comfort.  the new mdx is physically stronger than the previous model, with a more rigid structure that's much more resistant to twisting and bending, beneficial for ride and handling as well as tightness as the vehicle ages.  powertrain improvements include a larger, more powerful v6 engine, combined with a five-speed manual-shift automatic transmission. The completely updated exterior appearance, which is sportier still than the original, will make it easy to spot the new one. Inside, there is a completely new approach to suv interior design, a more organic, unified presentation of instruments and controls, a more involving scheme for the driver that should be appreciated by moms and dads alike.  we found the mdx quiet and quick, with nicely weighted steering. The active damper system that comes on the sport model makes driving the mdx more fun, with a flatter ride and less body roll in the corners. The driver can select between sport and comfort modes for sharper handling or a softer ride. The navigation system, satellite radio, ipod input jack and bluetooth phone synching make it easy and fun to go down the road.  acura says the new mdx competes with the bmw x5, the volvo xc90, the lexus rx 330, the mercedes-benz ml350, as well as the cadillac escalade and gmc yukon denali. The front bucket seats each have two-stage air bags and active head restraints, two-stage driver and front passenger knee bolsters, front seat side air bags and three-row side-curtain air bags including rollover triggering. That's in addition to the mandated front airbags. Active safety features, designed to help the driver avoid accidents in the first place, include all-wheel-drive, electronic stability control, and anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist for panic stops. walkaroundthe 2007 acura mdx exterior and interior were designed entirely in america, at honda's facilities in los angeles and ohio, with input from design centers in st. Moritz, switzerland, and milan, italy. It's supposed to look like a wally 118 motor yacht, but it still looks like an suv to us.  the formerly tasty grille has been turned into a metal-filled hole that looks like a battering ram, and the entire side has been rearranged with a new side window arrangement that suggests more sportiness than the original, with converging sheetmetal lines built into the design. Both headlamps and taillamps are heavily sculpted, and there is not one ounce of plastic cladding or side trim, in the same design vein as the original. Very clean, but susceptible to parking lot slams and door dings. The wheel openings, especially the fronts, are very pronounced, for a more sporty stance. Overall, we'd give it an 8. 7 for exterior design, remembering that it's essentially a big cargo box on wheels.  this second-generation mdx is more than two inches longer in length and wheelbase than the previous model, with a wider track and a lower stance. The mdx is now larger than its competitors.  acura's first power tailgate system is available on the mdx with the entertainment package. It can be operated either from the remote key fob, from a button on the driver's door panel, or from a button located inside the tailgate. The location of the tailgate's motor is the d pillar, not the roof, which yields more headroom for the third-row occupants. The tailgate can also be operated manually. interiorthe acura mdx has a completely new interior decor for 2007. It's designed with driver-centric instrumentation and displays. The two-line readout display for the climate control and entertainment systems uses large segmented figures and is very easy to read and interpret. There is scant rear legroom in the third row for adults; the third row is strictly for kids. In spatial terms, the interior has 142. 2 cubic feet of passenger space. There's 15 cubic feet of cargo behind the third seat, 43 cubic feet with the third row seats folded into the floor, and 83. 5 cubic feet with all seats down. With the five-speed automatic, the mdx is rated to tow up to 5000 pounds.  the 2007 acura mdx benefits from a completely new platform, suspension, and unit-construction body with a built-in frame and subframes front and rear. The mdx is really stout, some 15 percent stronger in torsional bending and seven percent stronger in lateral bending. This time out, it has 56 percent of its body in high-strength steel as opposed to the original mdx's 13-percent hsla steel content. It's longer and wider, with a 2. 5-inch longer wheelbase and similar gain in overall length.  all that adds up to a quieter ride quality, with zero squeaks, creaks, groans or rattles.  the 300-hp 3. 7-liter v6 engine is all-new for this application. Compared to the old 3. 5-liter, it has been treated to a hot-rod upgrade, with a bigger bore, bigger stroke, higher compression (11:1, necessitating the use of premium unleaded fuel), and a higher redline (maximum rpm). It makes 47 more horsepower and 25 additional pound-feet of torque compared to the old engine. Acura says it's the most powerful v6 engine in any suv sold in the u. It's quick, fast, and quiet, like every acura engine before it, only more so.  one very significant development has come underneath the lithe lines of the mdx, and that's the active damper system in the sport package option. These are the fastest-acting shock absorbers in the world, used by cadillac, ferrari, corvette, and audi, and they make driving an suv much more sporty, with a flatter ride and less body roll in the corners. A console-mounted switch lets the driver select between sport and comfort modes with the shocks. With the additional power and torque available from the new engine, and the amazing capabilities of the acura super handling all-wheel-drive (sh-awd) system already on board, we wouldn't order an mdx without this new technology.  we drove the mdx in the hill country of western pennsylvania and eastern west virginia, and found it to be a delightful traveling partner. The torque-sensing variable power rack-and-pinion steering provided the right amount of help in every situation from parking to very high speed interstate travel, with nice weight at the wheel and good center behavior. The wheel was connected to big 25. Climate Control✔ Bucket Seats✔ Power Seats✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ Air Conditioning✔ Bluetooth✔ Navigation System✔ Sport Package✔ Alloy Wheels

2012 acura tsx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New special edition model. introductionthe acura tsx is available as a sedan or wagon. Both are competent near-luxury cars that are very easy to live with. The tsx sport wagon is a nice alternative to a small suv or crossover. It delivers almost as much utility, better reflexes and better fuel economy than just about any suv extant.  for 2012, a new special edition model joins the acura tsx lineup. The 2012 acura tsx special edition features a more aggressive front spoiler, new rear bumper fascia, unique side sills, dark grey polished aluminum wheels, and trunk badging. We drove a 2012 tsx special edition and really liked it. Its seats are as good as sport seats get, with perforated black suede inserts and red backing and stitching, matched by the stitching on the steering wheel and the shift knob. The headliner is black, instead of the standard tsx gray. There's red instrument lighting, overhead lighting, footwell lighting, and aluminum pedal covers.  the 2012 tsx sport wagon has been updated with more rear cargo space gained by replacing the spare tire with a tire repair kit, thus enlarging the storage area under the floor. There's now 66. 2 cubic feet, making the tsx wagon the cargo-space leader in its class. We drove a tsx sport wagon and thought it was an agile alternative to a crossover suv.  2012 acura tsx models come standard with heated leather-trimmed seats, power everything, dual-zone climate control, a great sounding high-watt stereo, electronic stability control and a full array of airbags. The tsx scores well in government and insurance industry crash tests. The 2012 tsx competes primarily with the audi a4, bmw 3 series, and lexus is, and to a lesser extent with the mercedes-benz c-class, saab 9-3 and volkswagen cc.  for 2011, the tsx sedan got a slight face lift and the tsx sport wagon joined the lineup. The acura tsx was last redesigned for the 2008 model year. The tsx was based on the european honda accord platform and is expected to be replaced by the smaller 2013 acura ilx, which is based on the honda civic.  the acura tsx uses front-wheel drive, whereas many sports sedans including some of its competitors are rear-wheel drive. Regardless, this acura remains one of the better-handling front-drive sedans available. This engine is smooth and loves to rev. It comes with a choice of manual or automatic transmission, and the slick-shifting 6-speed manual is the most fun tsx to drive. Tsx gets good fuel economy, delivering an epa-estimated 22/31 miles per gallon city/highway.  a 3. 5-liter v6 is available for the tsx sedan, delivering substantially more power and torque, with a 3 mpg mileage penalty. It's more substantial, and heavier, with character more in tune with the luxury class.  technology has always been a big part of the tsx appeal, and this extends beyond the drivetrain and chassis. Acura's superb navigation system is the equal of anything in the class. It displays real-time traffic with congestion re-routing and local and national weather. The top-line audio system sets a standard for the class, too, with superbly crisp surround sound. Like the other features, voice command and hands-free bluetooth cell phone architecture are cleanly integrated with the car's electronics. The tsx delivers acura's hallmark traits of smooth mechanicals, a clean stylish cabin, and distinctive design. If it isn't a true sports sedan because of its size and front-wheel drive, it's very good being what it is: a stylish, efficient premium compact sedan with a sporty tilt. Options are limited.  the tsx sedan 29,810) comes standard with a 2. 4-liter inline-4, delivering 201 horsepower and up to 172 pound feet of torque. It comes standard with the same features as the sedan, with a few wagon-only items such as a rear cargo cover.  tsx v6 sedan 35,350) upgrades with a 3. 5-liter v6 generating 280 horsepower and 254 pound-feet. The package also adds premium els audio with more power, 10 speakers, a cd changer and a 15-gb storage drive, and a back-up camera. On the wagon, it includes a power liftgate. The window sticker will list tsxs with this package as separate technology models. Tsx dealer installed accessories include a remote starter, exterior racks and spoilers and interior trim kits.  safety features include the required complement of airbags: front-impact airbags, front passenger side-impact airbags and curtain-style head protection airbags for outboard passengers front and rear. There are active head restraints for front passengers and anchors for child safety seats (latch) in back. Active safety features include electronic stability control (esc) and anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) and brake assist. A tire pressure monitor is required by federal law. walkaroundthe tsx applies what acura calls its keen edge design theme, with hard creases and prominent bulges. There is a consistency to acura's styling that ties its current models together, starting with the prominent, stylized caliper logo, and there is no mistaking the tsx as anything other than a model from honda's luxury brand.  introduced as a 2008 model, the current-generation tsx has been with us for awhile and is expected to be replaced by the 2013 acura ilx.  the tsx sedan is one of the largest cars in its class. It's more than seven inches longer than a bmw 3 series, and five inches longer than a lexus if, and it's wider than both. These plastic sheets enclose some mechanical components, smoothing airflow underneath the car and minimizing the aural disturbance it creates. In its quest to reduce noise inside the tsx, the windshield has a sheet of sound-deadening acoustic laminate between layers of glass, and the side windows are thicker than average.  the tsx's front end blends elements from acura's other two sedans, the sporty tl and the more sedate rl, and from the mdx sport utility. Its side view departs a bit more from the acura family look, but keeps just enough of the cues to stay true to keen edge design. The rear angle is rather busy, and unfortunately suggests a toyota camry. The rear bumper cups the trunk opening with unflattering bulk, which makes the hot rod dual exhaust tips look a lame.  the five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels have a beveled lip, giving them a little more visual depth. Split five-spoke 18-inch wheels identify the tsx v6. The six-cylinder is also distinguished by a v6 badge on the trunk and slightly larger lower grille inlets. interioroutward visibility is excellent from the driver's seat, especially forward and to the sides. The rear view is slightly hindered by rear headrests, a problem not unique to the tsx. The larger wheels and lower profile tires on the v6 add almost nothing to the minimal road noise that finds its way into the cabin. Wind noise is better muted than ever at highway speeds, and the most prominent noise inside the tsx is the mostly pleasant sound of the engines spinning at high revs. Noise, vibration and harshness control in the tsx surpasses the class standard.  it's easy to like the handsome tsx interior. The cabin is comfortable without being plush, and sporty without being sparse. Communication between driver and car is easy and unabridged.  the trim is titanium-colored high-quality plastic, and everything else inside the both the sport wagon and special edition that we tested was black, except for the trim around the main gauges and a couple of buttons. Some might find the effect dark and dense, others might find it classy. The center console flows elegantly, up into a clean center stack and out over the driver's and passenger's kn. 2009 acura tsx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new sport-luxury sedan. introductionwith the 2009 tsx, acura has done a full remake of its entry-luxury level sedan. More than just bolting a slick new body on an old platform, the tsx is new from the ground up, as in, longer, wider and lower. In a couple measures, it's roomier, too.  technology is what sets the new tsx apart. Acura's superb navigation system comes standard and can be operated using voice-recognition. The standard navigation system is the equal of anything in the class, while an optional system displays real-time traffic with congestion re-routing and local and national weather. The top-line audio system sets a standard for the class, too, with superbly crisp surround sound. It comes with one engine, a 2. 4-liter inline-4, and a choice of transmissions, a six-speed manual and a five-speed sportshift sequential automatic. Although horsepower is off slightly, torque is increased by enough to make up any difference in sheer acceleration. Just as important, fuel economy is unchanged with the manual and improved with the automatic. The tsx stays with a front-wheel-drive configuration, whereas true sporty sedans are rear-wheel drive. That said, the tsx is one of the better-handling front-wheel-drive sedans and in its class, hard to beat as an everyday driver that can still be fun on a mountain road.  styling stays true to acura themes for 2009, but cleans up here and there to give the car a more aggressive, more buff look and to emphasize its more planted stance. The wider part, where it adds a couple inches between the wheels side to side, translates directly into a sportier driving feel.  everything inside that matters is powered, including the adjustments on both front seats. Dual-zone climate control and heated seats and outside mirrors are standard. The navigation system adds a rearview camera, acuralink real-time traffic (in 76 major metropolitan markets) with dynamic re-routing, acuralink weather and acuralink satellite communication system.  acura-approved, interior and exterior accessories are available from dealers. For inside, the list includes dark metallic and titian silver interior trim kits, trunk tray, trunk hooks, cargo organizer, and cargo net. Among those for the outside are 18-inch, 10-spoke, chrome-look or ebony-finish alloy wheels to replace the stock 17-inch aluminum alloys; backup sensor; wheel locks; sport bumper kit; rear bumper applique; deck lid spoiler or wing spoiler; moonroof visor; car cover; and nose mask.  safety features include a full complement of airbags to protect occupants front and rear in frontal and side impact crashes. Rear outboard seats provide anchors (latch) for child safety seats. Antilock brakes let the driver steer the car during emergency stops, brake assist boosts initial brake pressure in panic stops and electronic brake-force distribution apportions brake application between front and rear to optimize stopping distance. Electronic stability assist, coupled with traction control, adjusts brake and throttle to keep the car going where it's supposed to go through evasive or avoidance maneuvers or when road conditions deteriorate. The '09 tsx is no exception to that rule. Although it stretches the mold a bit, as it should, there's still no mistaking it for anything but one of honda's luxury line.  the front end nicely blends elements from acura's other two sedans, the sporty tl and the more serious rl, and from the mdx sport utility. The headlight housings, for instance, with their squinty lenses curling around the front fenders to reach deep into the arcs of the front wheelwells, look like a direct lift from the tl. The elongated, pentagonal chrome bar topping the similarly outlined grille pulls from both the mdx grille and the single bar slicing across the grille on the current tsx. The gaping lower air intake is a new design cue and shaves visual mass from what might otherwise be an overpowering front bumper while adding function by pumping needed cooling air into the engine compartment and reducing front end lift. Hood sculpting defines the tsx's centerline and front fenders.  the side view departs a bit more from the family look, but keeps just enough of the cues to stay true to its design dna. This is especially evident in the side lenses of the headlight and taillight housings and the silhouette of the trailing lip of the trunk lid, all of which closely mirror the '08 tsx. In much sharper relief, though, are the sculpted character lines in the door panels. These add visual bulk and combine with edgy wheel arches remindful, again, of the mdx to make a stronger statement about the car's sporty aspirations. Door handles embedded in the upper crease give the view a cleaner look.  the rear aspect, sad to say, suggests of recent toyota camrys more than of the previous tsx in its overly busy styling. A deeply cut horizontal line slices straight across the rear vertical of the trunk lid, itself looking almost concave against the gently convex vertical of the '08. Taillights bridge the seam between trunk and fenders as before but bracket a license plate recess that's inverted from the '08 tsx, visually pushing the trailing lip higher and seeming to add sheet metal across the lower reaches of the trunk lid. The rear bumper cups the trunk opening with unflattering sedan like bulk, which makes the hot rod-spec dual exhaust tips look a little lame. interiorliking the new acura tsx interior is easy. It's comfortable without being plush, sporty without being sparse. Communication between driver and car is, for the most part, open and easy and unabridged.  the front seats are supportive, with enough side bolstering for reasonably rambunctious motoring on twisty roads. The front seat passenger still gets shortchanged with no height adjustment, which leaves even taller people feeling as if they're sitting in a hole. The three inches tacked onto the tsx's width went mostly to more padding for side impact protection, but front-seat hip room is up by a solid inch.  the rear seat is more like a bench than twin buckets, and space for the lower extremities is snug, measuring by the tape a mere one-tenth of an inch roomier than the '08. This despite the addition of more than two inches to the '09's overall length and almost an inch and a half to its wheelbase. Rear head restraints adjust for height, which is a plus for its occupants, although that even when at their lowest position they obstruct the visibility out the back window from the inside rear view mirror is a minus. The steering wheel sports push buttons and toggles controlling more than a dozen functions, not counting the horn, making it look like it would be just as comfortable in a jet fighter cockpit as in a car. This may be just fine for fighter pilot walter mittys who fantasize about mixing it up with the other side's top guns, but for the rest of us, who just want to drive the car, it's a bit much. The center stack, however, with either the base sound and navigation system or the optional technology package, is one of the more intuitively arranged that we've seen, with large, finger-friendly buttons and a reasonably easy-to-learn multi-function joystick-like knob for the multi-layered information center-cum-map screen. The high-end audio setup does force the relocation of the cd changer down into the bowels of the center stack, where it's not as easily accessed as with the base system, which parks it at the top of the stack, but that's a minor complaint, and one that won't even show up on the technophiles' radar.  storage is more than adequate. Every door has a molded-in space for a water bottle, the front doors room for the proverbial map, although given a navigation system is standard, think guidebook or cds. The glove box has a partitioned nook for the owner's manual and associated booklets, leaving the rest for smallis.

2010 acura tsx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The availability of a v6 for the 2010 acura tsx represents a step almost as big as the styling changes introduced with the 2009 model year. Acura's superb navigation system is the equal of anything in the class, and it displays real-time traffic with congestion re-routing and local and national weather. The top-line audio system sets a standard for the class, too, with superbly crisp surround sound. Acura's v6 is smooth and linear, and up in the higher revs makes a pleasant growl. The v-6 model is heavier by 210 pounds and takes 3 mpg off epa city and highway ratings. And it needs an extra 15 inches of space for a u-turn. The tsx v-6 gets an epa-estimated 18/27 mpg.  the tsx uses front-wheel drive, whereas true sports sedans are rear-wheel drive. That said, the tsx is one of the better-handling front-wheel-drive sedans. And in its class it's hard to beat as an everyday driver that can still be fun on a winding road. The 2. 4-liter engine is rated at 201-hp,  styling is true to acura themes, the more aggressive, buff look to emphasize stance introduced on the 2009 model.  the 2010 acura tsx competes primarily with the audi a4, bmw 3 series, and lexus is. Other competitors include the cadillac cts, infiniti g37, mercedes-benz c-class, saab 9-3, volkswagen cc, volvo s60. Other acura-approved accessories include 18-inch, 10-spoke, chrome-look or ebony-finish alloy wheels; backup sensor; wheel locks; sport bumper kit; rear bumper applique; deck lid spoiler or wing spoiler; moonroof visor; car cover; and nose mask.  safety features include a full complement of airbags for front and side curtain airbags in back. Tire pressure monitors are standard. walkaroundthere is a consistency to acura's styling that ties its current models together and the tsx is no exception. Although it stretches the mold a bit, as it should, there's still no mistaking it for anything but one of honda's luxury line.  the front end blends elements from acura's other two sedans, the sporty tl and the more serious rl, and from the mdx sport utility. The headlight housings, for instance, with their squinty lenses curling around the front fenders to reach deep into the arcs of the front wheelwells, look like a direct lift from the tl. The elongated, pentagonal silver bar topping the similarly outlined grille pulls from both the mdx grille. The gaping lower air intake is a new design cue and shaves visual mass from what might otherwise be an overpowering front bumper while adding function by funneling needed cooling air into the engine compartment and reducing front end lift. Hood sculpting defines the tsx's centerline and front fenders.  the side view departs a bit more from the family look, but keeps just enough of the cues to stay true to its design dna. This is especially evident in the side lenses of the headlight and taillight housings and the silhouette of the trailing lip of the trunk lid, all of which closely mirror the previous tsx. A deeply cut horizontal line slices straight across the rear vertical of the trunk lid, itself looking almost concave against the gently convex vertical of earlier models. Taillights bridge the seam between trunk and fenders and the license plate recess mirrors the five-angle grille, visually pushing the trailing lip higher and seeming to add sheet metal across the lower reaches of the trunk lid. The rear bumper cups the trunk opening with unflattering sedan like bulk, which makes the hot rod-spec dual exhaust tips look a little lame.  six-cylinder models are identified only by standard 18-inch wheels, “v6” badge on the trunk, and slightly larger lower grille inlets. interiorliking the new acura tsx interior is easy. It's comfortable without being plush, sporty without being sparse. Communication between driver and car is, for the most part, open and easy and unabridged.  the front seats are supportive, with enough side bolstering for reasonably rambunctious motoring on twisty roads. The bottom cushion could be deeper, but this is a common shortcoming in many cars. The front seat passenger still gets shortchanged with no height adjustment, which leaves even taller people feeling as if they're sitting in a hole. Cabin measurements show the tsx with the least front headroom, more rear legroom than the is, and about par elsewhere.  the rear seat is more like a bench than twin buckets, and space for the lower extremities is snug; this is the typical pinch point in compact sedans. Rear head restraints adjust for height, which is a plus for its occupants, although even when at their lowest position they limit the visibility out the back window from the inside rear view mirror. The steering wheel sports push buttons and toggles controlling more than a dozen functions, not counting the horn, making it look like it would be just as comfortable in a jet fighter cockpit as in a car. The high-end audio setup does force the relocation of the cd changer down into the bowels of the center stack, where it's not as easily accessed as with the base system, which parks it at the top of the stack, but that's a minor complaint, and one that won't even show up on the technophiles' radar.  a. The high-end audio setup does force the relocation of the cd changer down into the bowels of the center stack, where it's not as easily accessed as with the base system, which parks it at the top of the stack, but that's a minor complaint, and one that won't even show up on the technophiles' radar.  a.
