Overview: this is a remarkably solid, original, running and driving 1963 triumph tr3b. This car would be an outstanding candidate for restoration or it could be a driver with nice patina. This is one of the last tr3s ever produced -- it was built on august 30, 1962 and was first registered in 1963. It is becoming really hard to find tr3s in this kind of unrestored condition. Frankly, i have been unable to decide whether to keep it as it is, or just give it new paint, or to fully restore it; so i decided to let the next owner make the decision. History: this appears to be a mostly rust-free, unrestored car. The previous owner told me that her father purchased it more than 40 years ago from the original owner who had purchased it new in germany before bringing it to the u. The british motor industry heritage trust certificate confirms that it was first sold in germany, that it has its original engine, and that it retains its original colors of spa white with red interior and black top. It retains what i believe to be the original interior, top, boot and tonneau cover. Mileage: the odometer reads 15,307. The previous owner believed it to be correct and checked “actual mileage” on the title, but i cannot confirm that. The odometer is fully functional, but it might have rolled over, i just do not know. Mechanical: the engine runs well, has excellent oil pressure, does not burn oil, and does not overheat. The brakes and clutch are operational, and the transmission shifts well through all the gears. The battery is nearly new and the tires look excellent. The steering and suspension also feel very good. Body / floors / frame / paint: the frame, floors, body, and trunk appear to be extremely solid and original. The hood, trunk and doors open and close properly and are in good alignment. The spare wheel well is excellent. The paint is very old, worn, and faded. Interior / top / chrome: the interior is old but looks very nice for its age. The convertible top is old and has some small tears. The boot and tonneau are old but look original. It does not have any side curtains with it. The chrome and bumpers appear to be original and look quite nice considering the age of the car. Electrical: the electrical systems are in surprisingly good order for such an old triumph. The headlights, running lights and turn signals on one side work properly but the turn signals on the other side were not flashing. The gauges are also currently in good working order. Documentation fee: a flat fee of $100 is charged on all vehicle purchases to help cover postage, paperwork, vehicle preparation, and other costs. Please understand that this fee cannot be waived. The balance must be paid by cash, cashier’s check, or wire transfer within seven days. All cashier’s checks must clear my bank before the vehicle can be released. It’s torque-laden grunt, wonderful lines, and reliability, made it an icon of itstime. The car being offered for sale is a prime and well cared for example that is guaranteed to bring smiles to the faceof any new owner, and constant admiration from those who see it. Over the years this car has received both cosmetic (older) and on-going mechanical attention to maintain aprize-winning appearance while providing very pleasurable, and reliable performance. Owning one of these appreciating cars is an ultimate joy, and the maintenance of them is surprisingly simple andeasy. And, virtually any part is available from a number of reputable companies in the usa. There are routine service and mechanical repair records available, along with a service manual, and a nice stash ofthe usual spares. The motor is strong, and the transmission shifts smoothly. All exterior lights and latches,interior gauges, switches, and wiring work as intended. All panel lights work, the trip meter works, as well asthe heater, and electric windshield washer. This car comes equipped with an overdrive transmission, nos lucas ranger driving lights, functional car jack andtools, a high quality car cover, a brand new but never installed luggage rack, and weather gear that is inexcellent condition save the never used side curtains which are in useable but average condition. Over the past few years this rust free car has received a refresh of the entire suspension front to back, (importedfrom england), electronic ignition, a total rebuild of the break system, new tires, new water pump, rebuild of thecarbs, a new higher performance radiator, and a refreshed steering box and steering column. Minor improvements have been made, including removing the high beam switch from the fire wall/floor to provideadditional legroom for a tall driver. A high beam toggle switch from an early jaguar is now conveniently found onthe dash. A spin on oil filter has been installed. The clunky triumph od switch has been replaced with a veryattractive switch from an austin healy 3000. The oem switch comes with the car. All major mechanical renovation wascompleted by the master technician at the renowned sports car services of vermont, now located in new hampshire. The spare tire is functional, the chrome is exquisite, the shiny paint is in very good condition, carpets are invery good condition, the rubber bits are excellent, and the windshield is clear. The rearview mirror is speckledwith age, but it is original to the car, has seen many miles of entertaining driving unfold behind it and i havesteadfastly refused to replace those memories. This is my father's car he has not been able to enjoy it since it's restoration 13 years ago and he would like it to go to a person who may get the joy he was unable to due to health issues. This car is in 90% condition would need to be gone through due to not being driven much more than 100 miles in 13 years .. It starts and runs moves fine, but any car that sits needs a look over .. We purchased this car from someone who had been performing a multi-year restoration. For a number of reasons, he was not able to complete the car and we took off where he had stopped. All electrical is functioning properly. Wide white walls on steel wheels with correct hub caps make this car quite stunning. We just completed a steering box rebuild, as well as a full service and are very impressed with how nicely this car looks, sounds, and drives. I have owned many tr3’s, and they represent a different type of sports car experience, that truly helped to define the phrase ‘sports car’. Tr3’s were one of the first cars to be produced with standard disc brakes. Unlike many other sports cars, this car had a heavy duty frame, and an extremely stout engine that was derived from tractors and made to last forever. A smooth transmission, very nice hydraulic clutch, and low slung doors make going through the gears exhilarating. Priced well below a normal restoration. Gassmanautomotive. Com!
