Unusual 1984 fiero indy pace replica - 1 of 2000 factory produced in 1984 - clean inside and out - recent service including valve cover gasket and fluid change - rides and drives very well. Approximately 2,000 of these vehicles were sold. The indy had aero body cladding and new front and rear fascias that would be used on the 1985 gt. This 'periscope' style inlet was used on the three actual indy pace car fieros that appeared at the 1984 indianapolis 500. This inlet scoop, and the 2. 7 l (160 cu in) super duty engine that they fed, were not available on the production model pace car replicas. The super duty engine produced 232 bhp (173 kw) at 6500 rpm and 210 lb·ft (280 n·m) of torque at 5500 rpm. Hoglund named pontiac engineer john callies to drive the actual pace car at indy. Callies was the factory's lead engineer on both the pace car and imsa programs. Fiero became the first 4-cylinder car to pace the 500 since a stutz paced the 1912 race, at a then record 144 mph (232 km/h). The fiero was conceived as a small, two-seat sports car with all new suspension and v6 engine. While general motors management and accountants were opposed to investing in a second two-seater sports car that might compete with the corvette, they perceived the oil crisis as a market opportunity for a fuel-efficient sporty commuter car. These figures are u. With respect to fuel economy, the fiero was intended to appeal to a market niche for which the corvette with its v8 engine was unsuitable. As a cost-saving measure commonly employed at gm, the tires, brakes, and suspension components were carried over from other gm economy cars (like the x and t platforms). As a result, the handling and cornering abilities of the initial fiero were merely on par with other contemporary sporty coupes (road & track 1985). Additionally, the iron duke i4 motor, which was designed for optimal running at low rpm due to its long stroke, was unsuited to drivers who purchased the fiero expecting a quick, high-revving motor more in keeping with the design of the car. Zimmer was a company that built extremely expensive bespoke art-deco luxury cars on modern chassis and the quick silver was an opportunity to build something a bit more affordable and a lot more radical. Believe it or not, there's a pontiac fiero under that baroque bodywork, although it's been almost completely erased by the zimmer makeover. Looking more like a long, low mix of lincoln mark iii and a corvette, it's got a very unique look. The hood looks about a mile long, befitting a luxury car rather than a sports car, but the engine still lives out back so handling is tidy. Special emblems, pop-up headlights, and a trunk lid that has a semi-continental look all make this quick silver look like nothing else on the road. The blue leather interior was given a makeover to help disguise its fiero dna, and it feels sportier inside than it looks outside. Using supple materials makes it feel expensive, but they're showing some wear since they're not the same heavy-duty vinyl that gm used; the driver's seat outer bolster in particular is a bit worn. Blue carpets are far more plush than the original fiero stuff and the dash has a real wood overlay covering the stock pontiac instruments. The custom steering wheel fits on the standard gm column, and everything that was optional on the fiero is standard here: a/c, power windows, locks, and mirrors, an automatic transmission, tilt steering column, and a familiar am/fm/cassette stereo with graphic equalizer (it was 1987, after all). Pontiac's familiar 2. 8 liter v6 engine was standard equipment in the quick silver, and thanks to the composite construction, performance is still lively. It's unmodified, so it'll be virtually bulletproof for decades to come and parts are easy to find and inexpensive, making this an exotic car that's very affordable to own. Service access is still through a hatch behind the rear window and aside from a red intake manifold and a special quick silver badge on top, it's completely stock.
