The packard company was started in 1899 by the packard brothers and their partner george weiss who was a major stock holder for winton cars. After the complaints of poor quality and reliability fell on deaf ears at winton which pushed the guys to produce their first "horseless carriage "on november 6th, 1899. Improving throughout the beginning of the turn the century until they closed their doors in 1958. The 50's era clipper has that iconic bubble style that people fell instantly fell in love with. Powering this beauty down the road is its original 289 cid v8 that runs strong & healthy throughout the power band and sounds great out of the dual ss exhaust. It is paired to a smooth shifting 3-speed automatic transmission that shifts firm but with ease. Both the engine & transmission have been recently professionally rebuilt with less than 1000 miles on them since. It has a 10 bolt rear end out back so changing gears for different driving styles could be achieved with ease. The car is featured in a brilliant teal & white paint color combo that pairs great. The car's paint was professionally redone within the last few years and the quality and condition is very nice. The body is straight & true with body panel gaps that are even and all 4 doors open & close with ease. The chrome bumpers & trim are also in like new condition and show very well. The emblems, light lenses, grill, side trim, & glass are also in great shape. The sweet headlight bezels really set this car apart from the competing chevy bel air. The car sits on a set of pristine wire wheel hubcaps that are wrapped in some new white wall tires that have plenty of life in them. The car is a show winner from bumper to bumper and the people who built the car took their time and it shows. The interior looks great as well. The cloth & vinyl bench seats in the front & back are comfortable and the color combo matches the teal & white exterior. As a front wheel of this packard rises on a bump, a mechanical reaction is carried to the rear wheel, distributing the shock and making for a smooth ride. Only 2572 series 250 convertibles were built in 1951, making this a rare car with legendary straight-8 power and undeniable packard presence. The all-new 250 was designed to be a low-cost packard, but everything's relative, as it still cost as much as a cadillac in 1951. The styling was conservative as ever, but with a handsome, rounded look that would serve until 1956 when packard merged with studebaker in a last attempt to stay alive. Bodywork is quite good, with straight bodywork and good panel alignment, suggesting that this car, like most packards, lived an easy life with people who loved it. The finish is older and perhaps showing a few signs of age, but like a movie star who is aging gracefully, it would be an insult to try to make it better. Instead, it has a wonderful all-of-a-piece look and feel, from the traditional packard grille up front to the optional chrome fins on the rear fenders. The interior isn't entirely authentic, but they did work to get the look right using a combination of pleats and flat panels, and the upholstery is quite comfortable when the sun is overhead. Matching red door panels were created at the same time, and there's plenty of bright trim to make the packard feel special inside. A big steering wheel frames three gauges with all the vitals and simple two-tone faces, as was the fashion in the early '50s. The shifter controls packard's ultramatic automatic transmission and operation feels quite modern, so getting this one out on the road is easy even for first-timers. The center stack houses the am radio (not operational, which isn't surprising) and heater controls, proving that nothing much has changed in the past six decades. The upholstery is in very good condition with minimal wear, the carpets look quite good, and like the exterior, everything looks about the same age and condition so it's quite a pleasant place to spend some time. And there's a giant trunk that's as neatly finished as the interior and it includes a full-sized spare on a matching wire wheel. Thanks to a freshly rebuilt carburetor and tune-up, it starts with a muscular 8-cylinder burble and moves the car with an uncanny ease.
