With a great classic !! Saved from the arizona desert :) up for auction is this 1968 mercury cougar, great shape with the original 302 motor 4 barrel 4 speed i have not checked the number'sset up from the factory known as the j-code. Axle code 5 53. 00:1e3. 00:1 body's great very minimal metal work was neededto complete. Used 90% original parts and some custom up grades as follows. 1) up graded interior and doors from donor xr7 car. 2) new reproduction dash pad .. From original molding ( better material now! No more bacon dash!)3) new wind shield (glass has original green tint in car)4) custom rims.

Very special 1968. 5 s-code, 6. 5 litre mercury cougar. This big-block, 4-speedcougar has just finished a fresh, no-stone-unturned, 6-year rotisserie restoration. Nothing was left untouched onthis painstaking restoration with extreme attention to detail starting from a rust-free arizona body. This cat features a functional ram-air system with the 1968. 5, 428-cj, gte-style hood scoop, paint stripe andflapper-air cleaner. This is also one of the first big-block cougars to receive the reinforced shock towers (notavailable on earlier cougars). The car is fully detailed throughout. The bodywork on this cougar sets it apart from the rest. The fit, finish and straightness of this body are justnot found on 99% of high-end restorations. Every corner issharp, every line is crisp and panel fitment is something to behold. The paint is impeccable. Dupontbase-clearcoat was applied in gunmetal gray. To say that the paint “pops” is a real understatement. This carwas ordered in a custom color. As such, there is no paint code. The marti report confirms this. They have beenreinforced to stay that way too. The vehicle is mostly stock, with the following exceptions: it originally came with the decor group trim. It hasbeen fitted with an xr7 tachometer dash with full instrumentation and xr7 wiring. The woodgrain dash (and steeringwheel center) has been modified from the dark burl pattern to a more sporty gray/black woodgrain to complement thevehicle's color combination. This was done at an oem prototype shop and looks very factory and very awesome. Thehood scoop and associated paint and hardware are an addition. The leather seats (although, original cougar seats)are not original to the car. The original dash, wiring and vinyl seats are included in the sale of the vehicle. The car has a few hundred miles on it now and is well sorted out. Everything works as it should, including thehide-away headlights, reverse lights, sequential turn signals, etc. All options function properly as well,including, tachometer and instrumentation, all lighting, the automatic choke, power brakes, power steering, etc. The engine runs very well. All sound deadening has been replaced and the car is very quiet and solid. This cougar's features: 390 4v hi performance s-code engine toploader 4-speed wide-ratio transmission 3. 00 traction-loc 9-inch rear end power steering power disc brakes leather seats am/fm radio original carlite tinted glass chrome style steel wheels center console original (1968 390 only) shifter and linkage excellent original woodgrain steering wheel. Selling my 2002 mercury cougar. It has a salvage title from an accident 3 years ago with a previous owner. No internal damage (frame is straight, engine runs great) but external damage that we fixed when i purchased the vehicle. Front bumper and passenger door were replaced. V6 manual runs perfect. It used to be my everyday driver but i purchased a newer car not to long ago. Ac had some issues last summer but that's about it. Great sliding sunroof. The battery and alternator is brand new. Tires have 80% tred left. It still has my expired washington plates, not willing to include ut emissions and licensing in price. Kbb says it is worth $1200 in fair condition. It's had the front end rebuilt with all new bushings, ball joints, spring perches and shocks, rebuilt power steering box, new power steering pump and hoses and new Hijacker air shocks in the rear. The paint was stripped and body work done before primer and 2 fresh coats of metallic gray metal flake paint was professionally applied. A color change was absolutely called for AM/FM
