Estate sales-local auctions-yard saleswe find this stuff locally in south west ny state. Car starts grudgingly - dirty carb and gas tanktrans works brakes have not been looked at and are not working at this timei bought it for parts but after tinkering with it, ignition tune up and it starts and drives' think some one should be driving this classic orphan. Solid car with repairable rust. Backseat looks not to have been used. Comet started as edsels option for the economy car wars of 1960. Edsel dies and the comet was still born to ford. Sold two years as a ford before mercury adopted it in 1962.
I consider her a true California survivor. Before that it was in the Los Angeles area. The car has agreat history ... owned almost since new by the same person. He was a careerLAPD Officer who after retirement went on to work with the Coast Guard. Hepassed away about a year and a half ago and I purchased the car from his son. The son told me how proud his dad was of the car and how well he took care of itand maintained it. With how original and solid the car is I saw that itwouldn't take much to get the old girl back on the road ... however, planshave changed and I'm in the middle of a house "make over" and addition thatwill take space, money, and time. Hence, the sale of several toys. Overall thecar is very solid and ready with a little TLC to get back on the road. Somewherealong the line before it was parked 30 years ago it had one repaint that is nowchipping and peeling in a few spots ... primarily on the roof and the hood. Allthe trim is there and in good shape with the exception of the drivers side frontfender that has a dent. The son mentioned his dad did this when backing the carinto the spot where it was to be stored. The upholstery and headliner is brittlefrom having sat in such a dry climate and will need to be redone or covered. Allglass is good except for the passenger side door glass has a hairline crack andthere's a small "bb" sized hole in the rear passenger side window. Therunning boards/rockers are surprisingly solid and free from any rust rot. Thatseems to be the first area to go on the old Merc and Ford Coupe.
