Comthe 1998 the esprit v8 uses lotus' self-developed all-aluminum, twin-turbocharged (garrett t25/60 turbos) 90-degree v-8, code-named type 918, in front of the renault transmission. Derek bell (formula 1 driver), developed an uprated gearbox a much thicker single piece input shaft for reliability. The type 918 engine was detuned from a potential 500 bhp to 350 bhp to prevent gearbox damage of the renault un-1 transmission. This 1998 model is an excellent example of one of these cars.
