It's responsive and comfortable as an everyday driver and it's ready to do some serious work when called upon. A new Hemi V8 engine brings more power and efficiency to the Dodge Ram line of pickups. Added late during the 2003 model year, the 5.7-liter Hemi replaces the old 5.9-liter V8, increasing power by 100 horsepower and 40 pounds-feet of torque while improving fuel economy by 10 percent. Dodge claims the Hemi makes the Ram 1500 lineup the most powerful mass-production light-duty pickup on the market. More important than claims, it is an exceptionally good engine, smooth and very responsive. Adding to the responsiveness of this engine is a new five-speed automatic transmission. A Tow/Haul transmission mode has been added for 2004. The new 5.7-liter Hemi V8 gives the Dodge Ram responsive performance. Fire up the Hemi, let it idle, and it burbles like a good old American V8, sounding like an engine in a cabin cruiser or '60s muscle car. In spite of the hot-rod term 'Hemi,' there's nothing old or outdated about this engine. It does, indeed, have hemispherical combustion chambers, but this is a thoroughly modern engine. Apparently, Dodge was researching ways to gain power and fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, objectives that often run counter to one another. While studying some of the older powertrain designs, Dodge engineers rediscovered that swirling the fuel-air mixture around a hemispherical combustion chamber achieves a clean, efficient burn. Though it's an overhead-valve design, the Hemi features twin spark plugs, direct ignition, and electronic throttle control. It achieves the holy grail of engine improvement, increasing power while improving fuel economy at the same time. Power is up by 100 horsepower over the 5.9-liter, torque is up by 40 foot-pounds, and fuel efficiency is improved by 10 percent. The Hemi generates 345 hp at 5400 rpm and 375 lbs.-ft. of torque at 4200 rpm. It comes with a new five-speed automatic that adds to its responsiveness and flexibility. When Dodge created this vehicle with 4 wheel drive, they immediately enhanced the performance ability. Driven by many, but adored by more, the Dodge Ram 1500 SLT is a perfect addition to any home. With flat black stripes that look a lot like an inverted hood treatment from the '60s, this truck is aggressive without looking too radical. Instead, it keeps a factory look, especially with the satin black side moldings to tie it all together. Some custom graphics on the door and the hemi powered decals on the bed make it an attention-getter, and it's pretty hard to resist any vehicle that exhales through side pipes. But make no mistake, this sucker still doesn't mind putting in a day of work, so the bed was treated to a spray-in bedliner that's pretty much impervious to abuse. There's also a custom billet grille up front, a set of hood pins, and even r/t badges on the front fenders, just to make a point. The bright red interior ties in with the r/t theme without losing its '80s funkiness. Bucket seats with red cloth upholstery look great and are all-day comfortable, and it seems that the door panels and center console were wrapped in the same fabric. A modern billet steering wheel wrapped in red leather, some custom pedals, and a big tach on the steering column enhance the sporty feel, while the original gauges, a pair of dials under the dash, and a dash-top gauge pod monitor the rest of the engine's vitals. Things like the original dash pad are in excellent condition and there's a big subwoofer stashed behind the passenger's seat. Tinted windows add to the cool look and help keep it comfortable inside on warm summer days. A late-model 5. 7 liter hemi v8 was swapped into the ram's massive engine bay, and it's so clean that it almost looks factory-installed. It's been swapped to a 4-barrel carburetor, which is an easy modification that makes it bulletproof reliable, but a full set of coil packs still light the fires. A 3-speed automatic transmission snaps through the gears and the rear end hangs on air shocks so the attitude is easy to adjust. It has new cooper cobra tires. I put a weiand 8009 intake and carter competition carb on it. I have a new 3 row radiator installed. The truck body is in great shape. There is minor rust over the windshield and a spot on the front fender well. Tailgate has a dent. The interior is fair. Seat needs recovering. This truck would make a good project or a start for a hot rod ,rat rod build. I am only selling it because i have other projects to complete. Please ask any questions before bidding.
